Today I put in a good couple of hours worth of work on the garden. Of course, we've been working on the chicken pen. We've got the posts in, the gate, and two courses of wire around it. All that's left is the wood fence panels and the roof. So, it should be done this weekend, and then we'll be able to have the chickens over here.
As part of working on the chicken pen, I moved some of our 'waste dirt' (leftover from removing the garden beds up against the foundation last year,) into a really deep depression inside the pen, up against the side. Since I had the shovel out, and the wheelbarrow, I decided to go ahead and use some of that dirt to fill up the two remaining earth boxes.
Once I did that, I moved the poor drowning spinaches into a different box. Hopefully, they'll be happier there.
I also used some of the partially completed compost as a top dressing, on everything. I covered that with two or three inches of partially decomposed leaves. Voila! Mulch!
The garden looks both more wild, and more tidy.
Later, I'll go out in the dark and plant the potatoes. After all, I've got two boxes ready for them. Mmm. Potatoes.
Potatoes for tomorrow. :)
